Ashley Madison Review: Is It the Right Option For You?
- minimalistic design;
- user-friendly interface;
- reasonable prices;
- a lot of priority features granted by the prepaid membership plans;
- high quality of profiles and a large pool of members.
- no ability for free members to communicate with other users.
How it works
The first time I visited the Ashley Madison website, I liked how minimalistic it looked. It had no distracting pop-ups and ads. The idea of the platform was easily understandable without any effort.
At the top right corner of the homepage, you can login if you are already registered. At the bottom right corner, you can switch to another country if the proposed location is wrong. Next to that, you can change your language too. On the left, you can see the places where you can get the Ashley Madison app from, and a pink button that invites you to start using the website.
I pressed on the ‘See your matches’ to start testing the site. Ashley Madison offered me to fill out the following form:
As you can see, only basic information needs to be provided to sign up for Ashley Madison.
The ‘Relationship status’ options can only be chosen from the drop-down list. Here, you may indicate whether you are single or not, or just choose your sex and the sex of your potential discreet date. Unfortunately, you can search only for the opposite sex on Ashley Madison, so if you are a representative of a certain minority, you will have trouble registering here.
The other fields did not make me confused during my signup process. The form took me less than three minutes to fill out, and when I was done with it, I pressed on the ‘I agree’ button to continue.
After that, I was proposed to upload a photo immediately but I decided to do that later. If you also would not like to add your picture right after you’ve registered, you can click on the ‘Later’ button at the top right corner to proceed. The next step I was proposed to take is to allow sharing my private pictures with the people who shared theirs with me, but I still wanted to stay lowkey for now. That is why I skipped that option and was asked to add some final touches to my profile. Here is what Ashley Madison asked me about:
The first field also has a drop-down list from which you can choose a few options:
- something long or short-term;
- erotic chat or online affair;
- whatever excites you;
- anything goes.
The ‘Undecided’ option is available for those who are new to discreet dating online or feel confused about the other options. I’ve chosen it to see what the website can offer for an undecided user. Pressing the ‘Done’ button finally took me to my dashboard.
The design is as minimalistic as the homepage, featuring a few buttons at the top right corner and a list of proposed matches.
The red ‘Buy Credits’ button allows you to upgrade your account. The ‘Profile’ button will take you to your profile page where you can upload your avatar and edit any part of your information.
Although I’m new to AshleyMadison, I can see that I already have a few messages. However, I’m not allowed to read them and cannot answer either since my profile is basic and I have not bought any credits yet. The messages I received look like the following:
So far, I can say that using AshleyMadison was not troublesome, and I enjoyed what I have seen. Its design and usability are on a pretty good level in comparison to its competitors. There is no distracting content even if you are a free member, e.g. no banners and notifications are forcing you to buy the AshleyMadison membership plan. At this point, I can recommend this service for everyone looking for discreet sex or dating online.
The website claims to have millions of users from all over the globe. Since Ashley Madison targets singles as well as non-single people, you are highly likely to find your partner here. However, keep in mind that the majority of members come from the USA, Canada, Brazil, and the UK. If you are from some other country, you may be lucky with finding an online affair, but not offline dating. The men to women ratio is nearly 3:1. Mostly, married people from 25 to 34 years old are registered on AshleyMadison.
With all that in mind, I started to filter my search results to see how many ladies are out there waiting for me. When I got just two profiles matching my preferences, I was frustrated.
However, these are the results of the free search, so I’m likely to be given more matches if I upgrade my account.
Now, let’s take a closer look at the ladies’ profiles. The photo of a smiling girl grabbed my attention, so I clicked on it to check whether I’m allowed to view it.
As you can see, I can view the profile of the user I liked. Also, there is an option of winking at this girl, adding her profile to my favorites, and sending her a message (this option is prepaid, as I noticed earlier). By clicking on the dots at the top right corner, I can block or report the profile if there is any scam activity detected.
Despite being given a limited number of matching profiles, I liked the ability to view them. The other thing that made me trust AshleyMadison is the quality of profiles. I can see that the profiles belong to real people who are online, uploading their photos, and telling lots of things about themselves. Hence, I recommend AshleyMadison to all who are new to online dating.
Since communication is free only for women on the website, I started to search for the pricing. To do that, I clicked on the ‘Buy Credits’ button and noticed three membership plans with a different number of credits in them:
- A basic membership plan that costs $49.00 and offers 100 credits;
- The classic membership plan that costs $149.00 and offers 500 credits;
- The elite membership plan that costs $249.00 and offers 1000 credits.
The last option looks like the most beneficial one since the price per one credit is just $0,25.
Upgrading your membership will allow you to send and open private messages, start chats, send priority mails and gifts to the people you admire. As you might have guessed, neither of these ways of communication is open to free members. Also, once you upgrade your profile, you can enjoy special priority features: your profile will appear on top of the search results and your messages will be put on top of the dialogues with other users. The purchase of any membership plan will also give you extra 30 days of free messaging.
As the privacy and safety of the personal data is one of the major concerns of those who want to try online dating, I paid special attention to these issues. Below you can see my findings on the matter:
- Register with the username that is not connected to your identity. Do not state your real name, your birth date, etc.;
- Create a separate email for registering on the website. It will help you to stay lowkey about your online affair;
- Invent a strong password. To do that, use digits, letters, and symbols that do not match any real words and dates;
- Do not disclose your email, phone number, and other data with people on the website. Do that only if you trust them;
- Choose paying with PayPal. Although Ashley Madison allows credit cards as payment means, using the secure payment system will be more reliable.
